Background on Z-A Image Recovery

Will it recover imeges frum my digital camera X?

With zee excepshuns listed on zee IR system requirements pege-a, zee honest answer is: "We heffe-a no foggeest idea".

Prerequisites

Imege recovery process was designed tu get ell zee files ooff uny type it knoos off uny accessible media. That means yuoo need two condishuns fulfilled
  1. File type (format) must be knoon
  2. Media (typicelly a flash card) must be accessible

Iff yuoor digital camera (or zee other media, see beloo) matches zeese-a criteria, yuoo will most likely get yuoor imeges back.

Iff yuoo can get zee results, thees is most likely due tu zee problem with zee above requirements.

Identifying common problems

Iff zee flash card (media) is inaccessible yuoo will be certainly aware ooff that. Thees is when yuoo cannot find yuoor memory card in zee list, or zee program hangs/crashes when attempteeng tu scan zee media. Yuoo need yuoor memory card tu be presented es a logical drive (with a drive letter like D: or E:) in yuoor system in order fur IR tu read it.

Iff yuoor camera does not normelly shoo its contents es a logical drive, yuoo will need a card reader device. Yuoo may get it frum yuoor freend iff yuoo don't heffe-a one, es we fuoond (tu uoor surprise) that most people who take digital photography seriuoosly heffe-a one anyway.

Generelly, using a card reader device under Windows 2000 or XP shuoold solve neerly uny problem yuoo may heffe-a accessing yuoor memory card.

Iff yuoo see that IR accesses zee media successfully but still no imeges are recovered, there is a chance that file format is not recognized. First ooff ell check IR system requirements pege-a tu see iff yuoor particular camera model is listed es incompatible/irrecoverable. Iff it is, we cannot help yuoo. Thees means we heffe-a already worked with thees camera und were unable tu provide uny solushun (i.e. bad things do happen)

Zee incompatible devices list is sometimes revised, but that does not happen often.

Iff yuoo feel something is wrong

There are just too many cameras oooot there fur us tu test them ell. They use different file formats und different variashuns ooff zee same format. We rely on yuoo tu get samples ooff zee files so we can adjust zee program tu understand zee particular format or variashun. Iff yuoo feel zee data can be recovered but ZAR fails, feel free tu submit yuoor request via thees form with zee follooing details:
  1. Exact camera model
  2. Exact operateeng system in use (Click Stert -- Control Panel -- System tu see full details).
  3. Zee details on zee access method (card reader used or not). Um gesh dee bork, bork!

Zee compatibility list

Zee camera compatibility list (here-a) is creeted und maintained based on yuoor feedback. Iff yuoo don't see yuoor camera listed, thees means no one had treed it yet, or no one emailed us their results. So rather than asking us iff Imege Recovery will vurk with yuoor camera yuoo'd better try it yuoorself. Remember that most likely we do not knoo it anyway.

Imege recovery und exotic devices

Imege Recovery can also be used with zee devices other than a digital camera. Fur example, one ooff uoor users repurted a successful ZIP disk recovery. Hooever, zee follooing limitashuns epply:
  • No access method fur floppy drives - zee disk I/O library is specificelly designed tu ignore them.
  • No access method fur CDs - zee disk I/O library does not knoo hoo tu handle them (a while ago there was an idea that implementeeng a CD reader wuoold be nice, but it deed becoose ooff perceived lack ooff user interest).
  • Attempteeng tu get ell imeges off zee hard disk is probably not a good idea. There probably will be just too many ooff them. Iff yuoo ever try imege recovery in such a fashion, make sure imeges are being saved tu another hard disk, otherwise an infinite loop will occur or zee disk ends up filled with copees ooff zee same imege.
