Home / Extras / ZAR 8.4 Manual / Disk viewer / Search for text

Search for text

This function locates the next occurrence of a specified text on the disk.

Search for

Enter a text to search for (case sensitive).

Code pages

ZAR can search for the text using several different encodings simultaneously. Select all the options that may apply.
  • ASCII (ANSI Code Page). - Searches for the text as entered.
  • UTF-16 Unicode. - Searches for the Unicode (double-byte) representation of the search pattern
  • Custom code page. - Searches for the search pattern translated into the specified code page.

Notes:

  • on NTFS, file names are stored using Unicode.
  • on FAT, short (8.3 format) file names may be stored using a different (OEM) code page, depending on the system language/locale settings.

At fixed sector offset (hex)

Forces ZAR only to look at the specified offset within a sector when searching. For example it is known that a FAT directory starts with a dot followed by spaces, so it is possible to enter ".     " (dot followed by spaces) as a search pattern and use the "fixed offset" option to ensure only sectors starting with this sequence will be found. The hexadecimal value should be specified.

Our customers say

I tried a couple of programs to recover images from a "broken" SD card and this one was the only one to recover all the images intact. Every case is different of course but you lose nothing as it is free. Wouldn't be without it now. I have no connection with ZAR btw, just a happy user of the software. HTH
