S.M.A.R.T. options

Enable S.M.A.R.T. monitoring

If this setting is disabled, S.M.A.R.T. checks will be just skipped altogether. All the devices will be reported as not S.M.A.R.T.-capable even if they do, in fact, support it.

S.M.A.R.T. poll interval

Sets the interval between S.M.A.R.T. status requests, in seconds. Disk status is polled and checked at the end of the interval. Default value of five seconds should fit most applications. Setting lower interval (higher polling frequency) may slow down processing slightly. Increasing the interval is generally acceptable if there is no reason to suspect physical damage of the device.

Pause if temperature exceeds the limit

If the drive temperature exceeds the limit specified, the processing will be paused until the drive cools down on its own. We strongly recommend that you do not increase the default limit of 60 deg C. If temp limit is exceeded too often, consider some cooling improvement (most simplistic approach is  to remove chassis cover and use an office fan to blow the air through the chassis; 19 inch stand fan at full speed will do the trick in most cases).

Drive temperature depends upon many factors, the most significant being

  • I/O load. Increasing load causes temperature to rise.
  • Ventilation design, including chassis setup, number and configuration of cooling fans.
  • Power supply unit output. PSU providing excessively high voltage can cause drive electronics to overheat.
  • Ambient temperature. Any heat produced during operation of the drive will ultimately end up dissipated into the ambient air. Effective cooling is not possible if the ambient air itself is hot.

Our customers say

I tried this software with my camera Canon PowerShot S20 (Which windows XP does not see as a drive) and I could not do anything. But if your camera is a drive when you connect it to your computer then this software will do its job. EXCELLENT SOOFTWARE (don't get me wrong...)
