File explorer

Note: In the following text, files and folders are collectively referred to as "objects".
File/folder tree data

All the recovered directories are placed into a reconstructed folder tree on the left. When you select a directory on the left, on the right you see files the directory contains. For each file, its size is displayed. ZAR allows to preview image files (like .jpg, .tiff) so that you can estimate the quality of data recovery.

You can check directories on the left and files on the right and see the total size of objects checked in the "Selected" section.

"Selected"

This section displays number and size of the selected objects. You may want to check the total size of objects selected with respect to the free space available on your target drive. It is not unusual to get a slightly larger amount of data than expected. This effect arises when multiple file versions (previously erased files) or duplicate files (e.g. when the file was moved, it may be recovered in both old and new locations) are being restored.

Select multiple files

Here you can either find or select the needed objects by specifying the desired object name (or part of it) and then using the corresponding buttons. You may want to check this page to find out more about wildcards.

Select and Deselect buttons
Using these buttons you can mark all the files matching the search criteria for recovery. Note that mass mark operations are only applied to the files. If the folder name happens to match the mask specified, this is ignored (only files are checked).

Preview image files

When enabled, the preview for the certain image file formats will be displayed when a file is selected. Preview is provided for image files like JPEG images, TIFF images, and PNG.

Export file and folder tree

Allows you to export either list of file names or list of folder names to a text file.

Save state

Allows you to save the inner state of ZAR data recovery software so that you can load it in the next run and get the recovered directories and files.
